Within the Payroll section of a user's profile, you can apply and record Deductions and Garnishments. A deduction is any recurring amount withheld from an employee's pay (for example, a benefit contribution or repayment), and a garnishment is a court- or agency-ordered withholding such as a child support order or lien. This article shows how to set up both correctly for an employee.
Payroll Deductions
Before you can apply a deduction to an employee, the deduction itself must exist with its details defined. For the steps to create one, see the Payroll Deduction Settings article.
Once the deduction has been created, apply it to an employee from the Payroll tab of their user profile.
Navigate to Administration, then Users, and select the user.
Open the Payroll tab and scroll to the bottom.
Click Add Payroll Deduction.
4. Select the applicable deduction from the dropdown menu. This fills in all necessary fields automatically.
5. Click Save.
Garnishments Documentation
The user's profile also includes a section for storing backup documentation for garnishments, such as a child support order or a lien. This section is used only to house general information and documents about the garnishment – it does not withhold any pay.
To actually deduct the garnishment from pay, add it as a payroll deduction using the steps above. The documentation section is for record keeping only. |
